KOOKABURRA MID BUCKS CRICKET LEAGUE - NEWSLETTER no 61 October, 2003.

It was disappointing to note that there were four Clubs who were not represented at the important League meeting held at BroomWade on October 15th.

The meeting opened with a welcome from the Chairman, Phil Stebbings who gave the

good news that the President, Dave Newell is out if hospital after a lengthy stay and progressing at home.

Presentations were made to Division winners, runners up, and trophies awarded for the best batting and best bowling performances in each division.

Win/Lose.

Discussion then turned to Win/Lose, and a proposal was made by Lane End, seconded by Bucks CC. Ballinger thought that any change should not be made until the 2005 season, to allow Clubs not wishing to play the new format to find alternative Leagues. This delay may also allow new Clubs wishing to play win/lose to join the League.Lane End amended their proposal to allow this. The members present wanted the figures from the voting forms sent to all Clubs to be made public. They are:

       9 Clubs in favour,

5 Clubs to remain the same,

This was made up of 189 players for, 119 players against, 10 don't mind. But this was a vote from only 14 Clubs.

Another four Clubs when questioned then said they wished to remain the same, making a revised count of 9 clubs for and 9 against. A vote of 189 players for, 335 layers against, 10 don't mind.

However, there are still 8 Clubs who have not voted and a total of 1310 players signed on.

Independent Observers

The Chairman outlined the idea of having independent observers at games, as neutral Umpires was not popular among the Umpires questioned. This caused a lot of discussion, and members present asked why, if the League knew of trouble makers, why they not asked to leave the League? Other members thought that the

Management Committee were over re-acting, as there had been only two incidents this season. From the feeling of the meeting it looked as if neutral Umpires, at least in the Premier Division was going to be a real possibility. It is now up to each individual Club to persuade their Umpires that they will become neutral umpires, and go to any game as directed by an Umpires Secretary.

Umpires Course

The Chairman told the meeting that there would be a short, three session Umpires course, to be taken by Cliff Pocock. It will be essential for all Umpires to attend this, and we, as a League are very lucky to have the services of Cliff, who will give his time free to the League. It is now up to each Club Secretary to pass this information to their Umpires. Dates to be announced later.

Premier Division Promotion

A proposal was made to make promotion and relegation to the Premier Division

automatic, and the Chairman explained that the " invitiation only" had been

introduced to encourage Clubs to improve both grounds and facilities at a time when the League was losing the better Clubs to other Leagues.

Management Committee

The meeting was told that there was a need for more members on the Management

Committee. Phil Stebbings was also resigning as Chairman, and that post needs to be filled, and, although already advertised in Newsletters there has been no response. Tony Greenham, Chesham Bois , and Malcolm Ford, Lane End were both proposed  for the Management Committee.

Web Site

A question was asked about the Web site, and whether it would be possible to get the Newsletter on it. Pete Baldwin was congratulated from the floor on the setting up and running of the Web site, and its contents.

Late Result Submission

A number of members present came up with ideas for encouraging Clubs to get the results in on time, most were in favour of offenders losing points. At least it showed that many Clubs now appreciate how difficult it is to run a League where a few Clubs continually fail to co-operate. When the agreed time for results is between 9 and 12 noon on a Sunday morning following the match, why do Clubs persist in phoning on Saturday evening, at 10 or even 10.30, or on Sunday evening.

A proposal by Haddenham that all Divisions should use two cricket balls could get no seconder.

The Chairman thanked the members who had attended, and BroomWade for the use

of their Sports Club.

The date of the Annual General Meeting is Wednesday, December 3rd, at BroomWade

Sports Club, 8.00. Please make a note of this in your diaries now. Attendance is

obligatory, and any Club who fails to attend will be fined.
