KOOKABURRA MID BUCKS CRICKET LEAGUE.
NEWSLETTER 114 May 09.
Having praised you all for coming to the Captains/ Umpires meeting it is clear that the messages
failed to be passed on to the necessary people.
PLEASE do not add your points for Umpires and scorers to the points on your cards. If a team
scratches against you, you will be given 29 points, it having been assumed that you would have had an Umpire and a Scorer.
PLEASE fill in your card honestly. If you did not have a scorer, have the guts to admit to it.
There are two Clubs who are at the moment in danger of losing 25 points for falsifying their card. Be warned.
There are still a few Clubs who have not notified me of their Welfare Officer. This must be a
person who has attended the course and who is CRB checked. If you wish to continue your cricket
with this League, or indeed any League, you must fulfil this obligation. How many of you ignored
my request to send back the form with the details of your CRB checked members. Are you absolutely
certain that your Captains are checked?
If a Club rings you up to cancel a game because of rain, on Saturday morning or before, you are
perfectly within your rights to say that you will go and inspect the ground, maybe the weather
will improve before the 3.30 deadline. This did happen last Saturday, and most grounds were playable eventually.
Some Clubs will have more Result cards and Umpires cards with this Newsletter. Secretary,
please ensure that they reach the Captains. Result cards must be filled in before the start
of the game. I can hear you all saying "I know", but how many of you actually do it.? If you
do not fill it in at the start, 1.30, and there is a dispute about players, you do not have a leg to stand on.
I have been very pleased to hear that some Umpires doing both ends in the absence of an
opposing teams Umpire, have been given the fee before the start of the game, likewise the
scorers. Without asking for it. Wonderful.
This Sunday, May 24th, at Prestwood Cricket Club, there is a testimonial match for Richard Tompkins,
who is in his 50th year with the Club. The match starts at 1.30.
Knock out matches start next Tuesday, please remember to phone in your result, I only need to
know who won, so that your next opponents can be informed.
Also with this Newsletter is a flyer about a dinner with Sir Garfield Sobers. This is to raise
money for Great Kingshill Road Safety Project, which is aiming to improve road safety in the
village. Much has already been done, the first project was to get a pavement along the stretch
of road where 5 year old Charlie Harris was killed walking home from school with his Mother.
Important points to remember from this Newsletter: Welfare Officers, and CRB checks. Filling
in your result card and Umpires card honestly.
Phone in your KO results.
