KOOKABURRA MID BUCKS CRICKET LEAGUE.

NEWSLETTER 111 February 09.

When you have all finished studying your fixtures and Knock Out games, please make sure that you note the important dates in your diaries now.

The Umpires and Captains meeting is on Wednesday, April l5th, 8.00 at BroomWade Sports Club, which by then you may find is called Magnolia Sports and Social Club. It is very important that all Clubs are represented and that your Captains and Umpires attend.

There will be discussion on a wide range of cricket matters, and one important point is time wasting, and keeping up a good over rate. There are still a few Clubs who have not told me the name of their Welfare Officer, and CRB checking may well come up for discussion. Another important happening at this meeting is that you all turn up to collect your cricket balls, having already paid for them. Remember No Payment no Cricket Balls. Result cards and Umpires cards will also be ready to collect. It is also possible that the new printing of the Rule Books will be ready for collection.

The Management Committee would like to know if your Club has anyone who wishes to take a short Scorers Course. They are thinking that perhaps a Saturday afternoon might suit the younger scorers. It is anticipated that this season the League will be much stricter on the attendance of scorers. It really cannot be, as some Clubs did last season, a young person, who at the same time is expected to look after a younger sibling, nor can it be a child, coming and going. The Scorer must be prepared to sit through the whole game, anything else is extremely disturbing for the other scorer, who in the end does both books.

That last point brings me to another matter which is continually being reported to me. If your Club does not have an Umpire you must pay the fee to the Umpire who does both ends. Umpires, please be prepared to ask for the fee. Likewise, the team with no Scorer must pay the Scorer in attendance. Both these points have been in the Rule Book for years, Rule 14.

One or two other things to remind you about. The Spirit of the Game to be displayed in your pavilion and read and understood by your Captains and players. This applies to behaviour towards each other both on and off the field of play, and the behaviour of your spectators ..

When you have under 17's playing in your team they may not use your changing facilities, but must come changed and go home as they arrived, unless your Club provide them with separate changing facilities. This is not something that has been dreamt up by the Mid Bucks League, it is a requirement of the ECB, to be practised by all Clubs whatever their level of play. This is sure to be up for discussion at the Umpires and Captains meeting in April.

REMEMBER.. Umpires and Captains meeting on Wednesday, April l5th, 8.00.
Time to collect your cricket balls, and cards, and possibly the new Rule Books.
Please let me know if you have anyone interested in a Scorers course.
I am looking forward to a really quiet, peaceful cricket season!!
