KOOKABURRA MID BUCKS CRICKET LEAGUE. NEWSLETTER 108 September 2008
This Wednesday, September 24th, at BroomWade Sports Club, 8.00, the Presentation evening, and the general meeting will be held, when you will put forward your ideas for proposals for the AGM, and generally discuss the past season. The Management Committee expect ALL Clubs to be represented. This is your opportunity to say how you feel the League is progressing, or not, and unless you tell us your Committee cannot remedy anything.
The Annual General Meeting of the League is on Wednesday, December 3rd, and your Club will be fined if not represented. All proposals that you wish to be considered at the AGM must be seconded by another Mid Bucks Club, and sent to the Secretary before October 1st, not by E mail.
At the AGM you also need to elect the Management Committee, and make any changes that you wish to the Officers of the League. Again these need to be seconded by another Mid Bucks Club.
The First Xl Knock Out Final was finally played at Monks Risborough, on a very wet day. Both Monks and Hughenden Valley chose to play a ten over match, rather than bowl at stumps, and it resulted in a win for Monks Risborough, and a badly cut up wicket. Thanks to Doug Miller who made it possible. Hughenden Valley are leaving the League, having lost their ground They joined us in 1977, and have had a very successful time with us. I expect many of their players will join other Mid Bucks Clubs. Bovingdon are leaving to join the Herts League, which they feel will give them less travelling. They joined in 1994, and in 2000 they had a very short spell in the Premier Division, but have spent most of their time in Division 1. Their Reserve team joined in 1998, but left again in 2007.
Enclosed with this Newsletter are the details ofthe Short Umpires Course. Any Club who lost three points for not having an Umpire needs to send players. You need to reserve a place by telling the Secretary that you intend to come. Some Clubs could benefit from having a scorers course, Scorers are not some young child who is expected to look after a little brother at the same time. There were occasions last season when clubs claimed to have had a scorer, when in fact there was a child playing with a younger child, and putting in the odd dot. This is not fair on the other scorer, who is not only distracted, but has to keep both books in order. All Clubs need to read Rule 14 . You must pay the Umpire if he has to do both ends because your Club has failed to find an Umpire. This does not mean that you get out of losing the three points. You pay the other Umpire and lose 3 points. The same applies to scorers, if you have no scorer you pay the scorer in attendance, and still lose one point. I have had so many complaints this season about Clubs not paying the Umpire.
